Location

Dallas, TX

This eclectic charming space in the Bishop Arts serves up espresso, wine by the glass, beer, and tapas surrounded by a carefully curated selection of books.

When two Spaniards, Paco and Javier, approached Stash Design about converting a 1940s Oak Cliff bungalow into a literary outpost reminiscent of the bookstores in their homeland, we were thrilled. Of course, making this vision a reality began with the materials.

The Bar

Bright afternoon light floods the space bouncing off the bar’s polished surface. A marriage of form and function, the bar is constructed of laminated fence board and upcycled 1940s doors. Vintage door knobs serve as purse hooks.

Liquor Storage

To keep the bar tidy, liquor racks, also crafted with fence board and expanded metal, are neatly suspended from the ceiling with iron flanges. Additional stepped shelving is affixed to the tiled backsplash.

Chimney Display

The house’s original chimney remains, but has been converted into a display for vinyl records and books, making it a focal point within the space that ties perfectly into the rest of the design and the interior walls made of shiplap original to the bungalow.

Custom Furniture

We constructed all of the tables within Wild Detectives providing room for work, conversation and a good afternoon read. Our long table acts as another display for books on sale. It’s sturdy legs are made from pipes and placed on casters so it can be transported about the space easily. The high-level of handcrafting need to finish out this table makes it one of our favorite table creations to date.
